Promoting Diversity & Inclusion in the SoBigData Research Infrastructure
During the womENcourage™ 2026 which will be held in Sophia Antipolis, French Riviera, France, September 30 – October 2, 2026, SoBigData will have a workshop named "Promoting Diversity & Inclusion in the SoBigData Research Infrastructure"
This workshop introduces participants to the Diversity & Inclusion activities carried out within the SoBigData Research Infrastructure and it is structured around four short presentations.
The session opens with an overview of the SoBigData R.I. itself, then turns to the project’s work on algorithmic bias and fairness—examining how bias in AI and data-driven systems can perpetuate and amplify social inequalities, and why addressing it requires interdisciplinary collaboration across computer science, law, sociology, philosophy, and policy. It goes on to show how EU regulations such as the AI Act and the Digital Services Act support the development of technologies built on D&I principles, and how the infrastructure operationalises these ethical and legal requirements in practice. Finally, participants are introduced to the SoBigData Academy, an open-access training platform for advanced data analytics, AI, and responsible data use.
The workshop is open to master’s and PhD students, early-career researchers, and professionals interested in open science and in replicating D&I activities in their own contexts.
